    Broker Authorized Symbols/patsystems

Hi. I'm connecting to a patsystems broker (MF Global). The "Broker Authorized Symbols" returns a list of over 14,000 contracts; almost entirely CME. The broker says I'm set up for more, but they still don't show up in the list. (ZL, ZS, ZC, for example.)

The Broker Authorized Symbols is generated dynamically, every you click on it, correct? There's nothing special I need to do to refresh the list.

I am using NT in simulation mode. I haven't signed up for live trading just yet. This shouldn't be a barrier, correct?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your note.

The Instrument Manager is a default list of instruments. If you are enabled for more, you will have to manually add them clicking on new under the instrument search field.

Not sure what you mean by click on broker list, but you do need to add new instruments as I instructed above.

See the Instrument Manager section of the Help Guide: http://www.ninjatrader-support.com/H...Overview4.html

There are no barriers to going live, just a change of license.

      Thanks for the quick response.

The list I'm referring to is the one that is populated when you click on the "patsystems" button from within the Instrument Manager...

        Hello Jim,

I have sent a note to Patrick and I copied you on it.

He reported you were authorized for list of instruments, but it did not included:

        - Wheat (ZW)
        - Soybean (ZS)
        - Soybean Oil (ZL)
        - 5,000 oz Silver (ZI)

These instruments were displayed in a screenshot you also sent.

Your broker will need to authorize these instruments as well in order for you to receive data.

Using the free license does not limit this.

Thanks, it did come down to broker authorizations.

I do have a follow-up question. Should a patsystems connection be expected to remain persistent until it's closed by me?

In a position/swing trading scenario, one might expect to set up some entry orders that could take many hours or even a couple of days to fill. Those orders might rest with the broker/exchange, but if they get filled when patsystems has become disconnected, NT won't be online to supply the corresponding stop orders, leaving you exposed.

Are my assumptions correct, and what should I expect?

          Thanks.

            Hi,

We don't recommend leaving positions on overnight as Pats only supports DAY orders. GTC orders are not supported as there is a broker shutdown period where they recycle their servers.
