Monthly/Weekly Profit Graph Bug

The monthly and weekly profit graphs in the optimizer seem to have a bug where if no trades are made for that week/month, the required blank space is not reserved for a blank bar during that period. As a result, if you are testing a long-term portfolio management strategy that may only trade a few times per year/month, the graph bunches all the bars on the left side of the display, even though some of the bars should farther right. For example, this graph should have several bars in 2006-2008, but none are visible. To duplicate this bug, try running a simple SMA (300, 50) strategy backtest with IBM from 1990 to today on day bars, and a similar bar pattern appears.

Thanks for reporting this bug. Unfortunately we can't provide a fix for NT6.5, but will address this issue with NT7 (first beta in Q1 09). Reason: there is a high likelyhood that we break logic which is working nnow. Thus, a fix would require a full testing and beta cycle which we will have with NT7. However, the correct numerical values are available in the "Periods" tab.
