Best TWS version for NT7 / Interactive Brokers connection

Context: I have NT8, but I have some custom indicators that only run on 7, so I need to downgrade to 7, but I'm not sure I'm getting decent tick data from Interactive Brokers.

In your connection guide for NT7 and IB, you advise: Traders Workstation (TWS) version 960.2.g

I believe IB added real-time tick data to TWS in v969. Do we really need to use v960 for NT7?

I've also seen that it's possible to connect NT7 via the IB API gateway - I know it's not officially supported, but can you tell me if I'll get better tick data from IB if I connect via the API?

Long time ago, I set this configuration and it worked

thanks - I got NT7 connected to IB gateway just by changing the port to 4001.
