    Simple bug in Sim calculations

    Guys,

I was just playing around with the Sim account feature in NT7, and noticed a simple bug that would be easy to fix.

    1. Take any account starting value, in terms of cash.

    2. Buy X amount of shares/contracts/whatever with it. You will see that the maximum limit of Y is reached.

    3. Now repeat step 2, but go short instead. You will noticed that you can open twice the short position (i.e 2 times Y) in terms of size as compared to a long position.

This should be easy to fix, I think your calculations are just off for the short side somehow.

This is a limitation of the simulation engine in NinjaTrader 7. The Development life cycle of NinjaTrader 7 has ended and only critical updates will be made moving forward. All development efforts are now focused on NinjaTrader 8.

However, even in NinjaTrader 8, you'll notice this behavior when shorting equities specifically (does not occur with other asset classes). This is actually expected.

When you short a stock, your broker deposits cash (for the sale) into your account which is why your cash value goes up. When the short position is closed, the cash value should return to the previous balance including any PnL from the short trade.
