I have an indicator that requires the chosen instrument to start Jan 1 of a chosen year, otherwise the calculated graph will not sync with the chart.

How do I adjust the instrument settings, or format the symbol, to be sure it starts on Jan 1?

Thank you for the question.

There is no supported method to get the amount of days on the chart from a script, so there really would not be a way to make a condition based on this.

Also the instrument its self will not decide the days to load on the chart, this is a user selectable option so there would be no setting in the instrument for this.

In order to get a specific time range on the chart you would need to use the DataSeries window and choose a specific date range. In the DataSeries window you would need to select "Load data based on: Custom Range"

Yes, In order to get a specific time range on the chart you would need to use the DataSeries window (File -> New -> Chart OR Right click in a chart -> DataSeries) and choose a specific date range.

In the DataSeries window you would need to look for "Load data based on:" and select " Custom Range"
