    How do I recover?

I knew I was about to make a risky change, so I made a backup copy of the .cs file first. The change compiled but when run crashes NT. How do I get back to working? Every time I restart NT, it crashes. I presume that the problem is that it has that bad compiled image that it keeps trying to load on the way up.

Here is what I have tried:
    • Restoring the good file
    • Moving the file out of the way altogether, hoping that would force NT to not load that indicator
    • Updating the save time on the good file, hoping that would force at least a question about recompiling

Nothing I do seems to get NT to either recompile the bad indicator it has, to skip it, or to get to where I can use NT to recompile it.

So how do I get back to a working system? There must be a compiled image somewhere that I can delete?

    EV,

If the issue is caused by a script, then you can delete a workspace file so that it starts without loading any workspaces. The script won't have an opportunity to run and you can delete / edit / compile as needed.

    To delete your workspaces:

    * Please close NinjaTrader and go to your desktop Start menu
    * Open My Documents
    * Go to the NinjaTrader 7 folder
    * Go to the Workspaces folder
    * Right click on _workspaces.xml select Delete
    * Now restart the application and it should start up normally

That file controls which workspaces load on startup, so will preserve the actual workspace layouts.

      Ryan,

      Thanks for the hint.

I just edited the parts about my errant indicator out of the two XML files I found there, and now I am back up with minimal loss.

        Ryan & EV,

When I had the same issue I moved the workspaces into a separate folder until I could determine which was making the issue: Some of the workspaces are involved to setup so I always made copies elsewhere to save time setting everything up again if they got corrupted.

Thanks for the reply - Glad you got it sorted.

I edited my first reply because you can actually delete only one file that controls the workspaces loaded at startup, but still keep your workspaces in tact.
