Plotting in both the chart and an indicator panel

How do I make an indicator that will plot in both places?

Envision MACD plotting the MACD and signal lines on the chart, and the histogram in an indicator panel.

That's too bad. I want to write an indicator that has the power of the moving average indicator I just made public, but that supports multiple moving averages and showing bull/bear indications in various ways.

It seems to me that the best way to show the state is with a histogram. I could do that as a separate indicator, but doing so would be a noticeable amount of extra work for me, redundant/duplicate code to maintain, and (worse yet) pretty inconvenient for the user to have to sync up two indicators any time the user makes a change.
