number of digit of an instrument

I want to know is there a way to know the number of digit of an instrument?
For exe. :
FESX, 2850 No digit
SP: 1080.75 two digit

second Question:

to display a text I use the following statement
("0") if no digit
and
("0.00") if two digit

Is it possible to use a single instruction to display the number of corresponding digit
