    ChannelThis and updated DoubleMA

    Hello all,

I've updated Rollins' DoubleMA indicator to add several new moving averages, eliminate the Print statements, and add a Signal and DMV dataseries. The Signal dataseries is 0 for neutral, -1 for short, 1 for long (helpful for strategies/indicators). The DMV dataseries will display the correct close bar value regardless of direction, a shortcoming of the original version.

DoubleMA allows you to plot any two moving averages together as a single line. Great work by Rollins.

Second, I've released a new indicator called ChannelThis which will allow you to place any two moving averages into a channel with various display options to allow you to identify breakouts or kill zones.

    You can download from here:

As always, more info is on my blog.

Also, as a reader of my blog pointed out, if you aren't using a Range chart (like I usually do) you'll want to increase the ATR length value to make the lines smooth.

For a 5 minute chart for instance, you might want an ATR length of 9 or 21.

Massively awesome Mike. Lots of flexibility built in as well. I like to filter out all the market noise I can and this looks like a great tool towards that end. I'm testing it with the HeikenAshi Smoothed indicator and a 4 Range setting.

It's kind of like going from AM radio to Satellite radio, all the noise disappears.

            Me too

            I'm having the same problem.

the indicator works for a while then things start acting up. I tried to reload and no colors are on chart.

It looked like it had some promise.

              Guys,

This is because the colors need to be serialized (from what I am told). I will come back to it as soon as I can, too many projects not enough time! Gotta pay the bills first, then write blogs and give away indicators second

A quick painless workaround is to edit the indicator directly and just put in the colors you prefer (making them default).

              Mike

ChannelThis Indicator - Slows down Ninja?!

I like this indicator! However it seems to slow down my charts and DOM tremendously! Wish there was a way around it.

I tried ChannelThis indicator today during live market, and after a frustrating day where it seemed that my charts froze up on me constantly (this seemed to occur when moves of 1 to 2 points took place on ES in a matter of 2 to 10 seconds - I use 2 computers with two separate data feeds, the slower computer that did not have this indicator was not affected during this) I realized the culprit may be one of my indicators. Sure enough after pocking around a bit and deleting a few indicators one at a time discovered that ChannelThis was the cause. Performance went back to normal after I deleted this indicator.

Anyone else noticed a similar issue?

                  Thanks all.

John, have you checked the logs as this 'slowing down' occurs? A clue might be found there to help you debug if you choose to do so...

John, the log tab is the rightmost tab found in the Control Center, while the issue occurs please keep an eye on this.

                          Bertrand,

I monitored the log file during live market, however nothing posted during the slowdown! Any other suggestions?

John, sorry no, then you would need to step into the code section by section to drill down to where the 'bottleneck' is located.
