Help with Bool State Changes

Hello. I am developing a multi-period strategy where a portion of the functionality seeks to determine if a bool parameter for any one of the periods has changed state within the last 20 bars; for example.

I've achieved this with integer and double parameters in the past utilizing the CrossAbove and CrossBelow statements but is it possible to replicate the same idea for bool?

Thanks for your post.

Yes you can use a bool condition and be able to test for a state change within x bars. For example (myBool is declared as a bool and set to false and stChange is declared as an integer).

if (CrossAbove (EMA(20), SMA(100), 1))
{
myBool = true;
stChange = CurrentBar; // save the bar number of the state change
}

Later in your code you can test:

if (some other conditions && myBool && (CurrentBar - stChange) < 20)
{
// do something here
}

Depending on how you are coding your multiperiod strategy you may need to use CurrentBar or CurrentBars[n]. Please see:
