Exposing internal variables for common usage

I am aware of how to expose internal variables for public usage by other indicators, thanks to Josh's example (http://www.ninjatrader-support.com/v...ead.php?t=4991) -- Thank you, Josh!!

Questions:
Once exposed for public use, the original Indicator A is NOT required to be added to the chart, if another indicator B (on the chart) wants to reference A's exposed variable, correct? For example, I can reference SMA without adding that SMA to the chart.
I expect this is why it is important to add the update() method for non-plot public variables?

If I expose a variable in a strategy, can indicator code reference that public variable? Is anything else required to be able to do this?

You do not have to put the indicator on a chart.
You can not access strategy property via an indicator in the same context of this discussion.
