Which version of Visual Studio works best with NT7 (i.e., does not crash NT)?

Using NT7, I tried debugging ninjascript in VS 2010 and find that NT will crash fairly regularly. Is this a known issue and/or is there a version of VS that is preferred for debugging with NT7?

    Hi dolomite,

Below is a link to debugging with visual studio in the help guide.
    http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/h..._debugging.htm

Is the crash happening due to the code being debugged hitting an error?

(Can you debug the ADL indicator for example without it crashing?)

Are you using visual studio 2005 or above?

Have you attached the NinjaTrader.exe process to the visual studio debugger?

Yes, I followed that guide, so yes, I am attaching NinjaTrader.exe to the VS debugger.

No. Crashes happen just jumping between breakpoints. Seemingly at random.

      Haven't tried yet.

      Yes, VS 2010.

I'm wondering if this might be due to memory constraints. I'll close down some apps to free up some memory and see if the problem persists, and report back.

        Hi dolomite,

        Sounds good.

I haven't seen much crashing when doing this myself so I would need to investigate on your end.

If you keep running into the issue, let me know and I will schedule a call with you to take a look.

In an attempt to eliminate resource constraints as the issue, I tried running it on my Window 7 laptop with 8GB of RAM with NT and VS as the only apps running (apart from startup processes). Debugging strategies is still crashing NT.

I then tried debugging the ADL indicator on the same machine, again with only NT and VS running. Same result. I'm able to get through a couple of dozen OnBarUpdate cycles before NT crashes.

Update: I don't think it's a lack-of-memory issue as I got this working (by luck) and then deliberately tried to crash it by cutting free memory in half from 4gb to 2gb by loading up a bunch of browser windows and it still would not crash. Will have to do more testing.
