    float vs double

Would there be a benefit to using "float" as a variable type rather than "double" for variables that would not be effected by the potential loss of accuracy and would not need so many decimal points? Would that have any amount of effect on the speed and "lightweight-ness" of the code?

jg123, I would not suggest looking into unless you had overwhelming number of internal variables for example and could profile memory use issues to that area. Reason being that NT's architectures are wildly using the double types and casting would hold performance impacts as well, so I feel the (minimal) gain is likely negated.
