    Checking existence of an instrument

    Hi, I'm writing a multi-instrument indicator.

I would need to ensure the user has a particular instrument in his ninjatrader; I try to use "try...catch" structure but seems adding a non-exist instrument won't throw an error. What is a better way to check the existence of an instrument?

    Thanks,

    Jacky

    Hello Jacky,

Welcome to the NinjaTrader Support Forums!

I am not aware of a method that would check the validity of a Instrument since this would require access to our Database file which is not supported. With that said, if the "catch" portion of the code is not being called then that means that NinjaTrader's under-the-hood items are catching the error before this. You should see an error message inside of the Log tab of the Control Center if this is the case.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

      Thanks for your reply.

I just figured out that there will be an exception when I try to read the price from the non-exist data series. I can use this as a test, for my case.
