SendMail() - how does this work? Is it possible to have it send from an open gmail account or do you have to have something special set up on your PC or server?

You can have SendMail() send from your gmail account.
Go to Tools -> options -> Misc Tab -> then use the following link for email settings:

No SendMail() is ignored over historical data. This is to prevent alerts from being spammed.
