How can I programmatically tell if the last trade closed because the ProfitTarget was reached?

ricktek, which NS methods are you working with here for the targets? The Set methods would not expose their IOrder objects, however those could be captured in OnOrderUpdate() to monitor -
More control and feedback would be offered per default via the Exit method's - http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/h...ightsub=IOrder
