Intel Core i7-3930K (6 cores)

Hi,

Is NT able to fully utilize all 6 cores of the new Intel i7 processor, or is it limited to a quad core? I'm talking about both live trading, and optimization.

Hello nicbizz,
NinjaTrader 7 comes with optimized multi core/multi-processor support and you will be able to use all the 6 cores.

However, the charts run on single threads and thus it will use a single core in real time. Backtesitng and optimization however will take advantage of all the cores and will utilize all the cores.

For most part, the actions are single threaded only in the market analyzer too.

However we plan to make enhancement in this regard in our next major release.

Just to clarify, if I have a list of 500 stocks on Market Analyzer, with one of the columns set to the SMA(14) indicator, with CalculateOnBarClose = false, all the calculations done for SMA for all 500 stocks each tick will be performed on a single thread?

Hello Nick,
OnMarketData methods, Account columns etc for example is multi threaded. So it would be called in the core using multiple threads. However it is marshaled onto the one UI thread.

In short, much of the background work are multi threaded, though the main display runs in a single UI only.
