Is there a way to keep a strategy from disabling after a close position order is given prior to the actual algo exits - exit the position?

Do you mean when hitting the close button? If you are using it with an ATM strategy you can middle click the close button. It will close that ATM strategies position but leave the NS strategy running.
If you are not using ATM strategies, you can manually place a closing order rather than use close button. If you are in a long position, hit sell market, or for short positions click buy market.
