    Funny in a way

    Hi,

As the subject suggests, this is funny (it would be funnier if it had happened to someone else and not me).

I don't know why (I suspect a compile error, I was editing some code) but you put up a modal dialog box. Reasonable enough but it doesn't show in the task bar and while that normally wouldn't be an issue, it is if the modal dialog happens to pop up behind an always on top chart.

This is from the trace file and may help

2011-03-18 13:22:45:599 No NS wrappers generated for Indicator !

I had to kill NinjaTrader (that itself sounds funny) using the end process in task manager.

Not a big deal (luckily I wasn't in a trade or anything critical) but thought you would want to know.

    Hello,

You have some strange code then that is causing NinjaScript file to not generate a NinjaScript wrapper.

If you compile again does the same thing happen? Do this when not in a trade please.

I look forward to assisting you further.

Brett, it was definitely a compile error, I knew that at the time.

What I wanted to report was the fact that the compile error dialog box is modal and it happened to come up behind an always on top chart window. Because the dialog doesn't show in the task bar and it is hidden by the always on top chart, I had no way to close it short of killing NinjaTrader via the task manager

      Best Regards,
      Scott

        Hello,

        Understood.

This is the case with any window such as this with any always on top window. Would suggest turning off always on top or at least turning it off when you go to compile. This is a limitation of windows.

For example another way a user can get stuck is if you get a chart loading error and an always on top window is on top of it. This is the limitation of always on top mode and how the operating system handles these windows.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Brett, thanks. I didn't know if you all have an easy way to get the modal dialog in the task bar, that way you can hover over it and close it that way (as long as it is only an OK response is required).

I have programmed Windows commercial software for over 15 years now so I know this stuff but am never certain who else does and doesn't. I also wasn't certain if you all realized this could happen.
