Our trading method utilizes two strategies, one intra-day, one swing trading. We are attempting to retrieve the face value of the chart - whether daily or minute type - to automaticlly switch from one system to the other. We tried using the code line as follows:

Add(item.ToString(),BarsPeriod.BasePeriodType,Bars Period.Value)

BarsPeriod.Value is returning the correct number, but Bars.Period.BasePeriodType always returns minutes. Is there a way around this? We had read in another forum post that the Add function does not allow dynamic input when use with Ninja Script, however, the BarsPeriod.Value is allowing it. Any solutions?

Thanks for your forum post.

Unfortunately this is not supported. Even on the following page you will see a note at the top warning not to use this in Initialize(). I cannot think of another way to do this either unfortunately currently.

One thing that has us confused is that it is used in the initialize () method of your sample multi-time frame strategy:

protected override void Initialize()
{
// Add a 5 minute Bars object to the strategy
Add(PeriodType.Minute, 5);

// Add a 15 minute Bars object to the strategy
Add(PeriodType.Minute, 15);

That syntax is needed to add a secondary series. PeriodType.Minute isn't the same as BasePeriodType.

We do not support dynamic series adding. All series added must be hard coded with type and value using the same format as your last post.
