External assemblies

Excuse my noobie question. I'm a programmer, but mainly Win32, no .NET, so, I don't really know what I'm doing. But, I went to try to use an external assembly, I added it to the references in the editor, and it compiled okay. But in the trace file, it said it could not find the assembly. So, I guess I need to add it to a path, or copy to a specific path?

Custom DLLs should be placed in your .....bin/Custom folder, same place as the NinjaTrader.Custom.dll and NinjaTrader.Vendor.dll

I'm using an assembly that is also used in other applications. It would seem like there should be a way to have NT use a path. But, I guess its not a big deal to make an extra copy.
