    The Old IFormatProvider Trick

    I need to have a date constant available in my strategy, for example,

    private DateTime MyDate = DateTime.Parse( "31/08/08" );

    My PC is set for the day/month/year format which is used by DateTime.Parse. When I send my strategy to someone in the US where month/day/year is used, the parsing fails.

    There is an optional parameter to Parse which is IFormatProvider provider. I'm certain that this is how I could force use of my date format regardless of the local convention. However I have been unable to find any documentation or examples of IFormatProvider.

    Could someone suggest a link to some documentation or prvide an example?

    Thanks,

    RVRoman

    Couldn't you just use:
    private DateTime myDate = new DateTime(2008,3,31);

      Indeed You Can

      Josh,

      Thanks, that's exactly what I needed. I missed the whole "new" thing. I entered DateTime( ... and got nothing. Once I entered new DateTime( ... I got the world and I'm away laughing.

      Cheers,

      RVRoman

      PS: Should I do something to delete my thread when I've received a satisfactory answer? Or perhaps I should leave it there for other unfortunates.

        Leaving it for others to search would be great. Glad you got it resolved. Cheers.
