paulg, you may want to consider evaluating the CDA_VolumeProfile indicator. it's pretty feature-rich and supports session, micro-composite, and full composite profiling on a chart of any market, time-frame and session template, with a single instance of the indicator. this indicator is strictly volume-at-price profiling, not TPO (time-at-price) profiling.

To Fred or anyone in the know, do you know where the version 7 of this study can be found? The above website (discretionary....) seems to be a dead link. Thanks for the help.

New version available (finally!)
After a great deal of effort a new version of Price Volume Histogram is ready for distribution.
It is completed re-written for improved performance, accuracy, and of course, NT 7 compatibility.
As part of the process we have associated with NinjaTrader as a Partner, and will be offering indicators and other trading tools as the company 'Discretionary Trading Systems'. Look for the 3rd Party Partner announcement in an upcoming weekly broadcast email from NinjaTrader.
To get started now, check out our website, http://www.DiscretionaryTradingSystems.com, for current NT 6.5/7.0 indicators and other product offerings in the pipeline for future delivery.
Looking forward to providing you with valuable indicators for the NinjaTrader platform.
Fred Walton,
Discretionary Trading Systems.

What version are you using this against?Originally posted by mystiq View PostThankyou NT_Josh/
Fwalton- can you help with this error.
8/23/2010 7:06:25 PM|3|4|OnBarUpdate() Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Instrument:'BIDU' CurrentBar:100 Date:'8/23/2010 12:00:00 AM' Bars.Count:101
I'll assume NT7 because there is a significant issue with the new version.
Unfortunately some core properties in NT7 have changed behavior compared with NT6.5
An escalation to resolve the issue is in progress.
No ETA for resolution yet...

I've no idea how the listing got cross-posted to the Version 7 category since I did not do it.Originally posted by paulg View PostFred,
The version you posted under the NT7 section, is a preview of your late July, or it's actually the 1.3 release?
To answer your question, no, it is not a new version, but rather version 1.3 which has been available for a few months to work with NT 6.5.

extreme ends
...so if i plot a 30min chart, the max price would be VAH and the min price would be VAL? for the specified date range...and the same if i plotted a Daily chart?Originally posted by fwalton View PostThe extreme plotted ends are the max/min prices of the specified data ranges.
Typical histogram distribution across the price range means that the volume at each end is close to zero.
If you are looking for significant volume levels, set the 'ThreshholdPecent' property to 70 which emulates the VAH and VAL levels of Market Profile Theory.

ALSO what does this error represent?
OnBarUpdate() Error: PriceVolumeHistogram.DrawRectangle: startBarsAgo must be greater/equal 0 but was -3 Instrument:'BAC' CurrentBar:252 Date:'7/14/2010 12:00:00 AM' Bars.Count:253
