Trading in Simulation and eventually Live

This is a newbie question... I am preparing to trade first in simulation mode and then real-time... I can add a Strategy to a chart and I can add a Strategy to the Strategies tab in the main window... will both of these ways generate orders and positions? If both, are there any pros and cons to each approach?

Yes, both ways will generate orders/position.. When you add a strategy to a chart, it will also be added to the strategies tab. However, if you directly add a strategy to the tab then the strategy will not display on a chart.

When added to a chart, the strategy will display trade executions (if they (plot executions) are enabled on the chart).

If your strategy provides any visual display, it would show when applied to a chart but not when applied to the strategy tab.
