Data Box

Hello all,
Is there any way to open more than one data box? I have multiple charts but only one data box will open. When I move my cursor to different charts, the information in the db changes, but I need to see the individual data for each chart simultaneously.
Also is there a way to integrate the db information into the chart without needing to open a separate db window?

Hello Fred,

Thank you for writing in.

Having multiple Data Boxes in NinjaTrader 8 is not possible however if there is a fixed time frame you'd like to know these values for across all markets, for example 5 minute bars, you could create a Market Analyzer window.

1. To set this up Control Center>New>Market Analyzer. Right Click Add Instrument.

2. On the Analyzer Window right click>Columns.

3. Scroll down to Indicator, double click.

4. Change the Indicator drop down to SMA.

5. Set its Period to 1.

6. Set its Input Series to High

7. Set Value under Data Series = whatever time frame you'd like, for example 5 for 5 minute.

8. Change Calculate from OnBarClose to OnEachTick

9. Change Label to High5MinBar.

10. Press Apply and Okay.

11. Repeat steps 1-10 modifying step 6 and 9, changing the value from High to Low/Close/Open/Volume/Etc to have these columns displayed.

See the attached screen shot for an example.

I will forward your suggestion about multiple Data Boxes in NinjaTrader 8 to the development team and ask them if they can add this to a list of future considerations for the software.

Could you please check with the engineers and see if it is possible to incorporate the OHLC into each chart? Perhaps in a small horizontal row at the top. This is basic information. In 10 years I don't think I have ever seen a chart that did not have them come up automatically. Also, would it be possible to make the data box so it could be minimized?
Your suggestion of multiple data boxes would be really helpful. If a person is analyzing more than one chart simultaneously, they need to be able to see the basic price statistical data for each market simultaneously as well.

I have submitted this ticket to the development team and it'll likely be given a feature request ID. Check back with us in the near future if for this ID if you'd like to track its status.

To minimize the Data Box, you could left click the NinjaTrader icon on the Windows Taskbar> right click on the Data Box> and left click on Minimize. See attachment.

In the event you were not aware, you can always also middle mouse click on the chart to pull up a mini data box for that chart too. See Understanding the Mini Data Box section of our helpguide,
