I am using @Lines.cs as a guide to create a DrawingTool that draws a line(ray) at a 45 degree angle.

Can you provide more details on what portion of your code is causing the error?

This is a very generic error from sharpDX so we would need to look further into what you have coded to determine what the cause is.
