BarType documentation request

I request that you provide more documentation on developing a BarType.
Specifically, I would like a high level summary of the lifecycle of a BarType.
What are the specific responsibilities of a BarType and what logic should NOT go into a bar type (e.g., integrating the bid/ask data into the bar type info. Is that a BarType responsibility or an indicators?)
What methods are called at what stages in the life cycle.
