Cryptic connection message

An FXCM account has been previously created and connected to without issue. When the FXCM connection is down (FXCM does regular weekend maintenance), attempting to connect to the account produces a cryptic popup message of the form:

My FXCM: ORA-499: Unable to obtain station descriptor. ... ...

One can guess that this means "Unable to connect to account provider" (or similar), but the message is not obvious. The detail in the message may be useful, but the actual error message itself should be more user-friendly.

Thanks for your feedback.

However these errors come directly from the API. While we could spend effort to trap this particular error and replace it with something more meaningful, it would only account for this one specific scenario and we'd also have to specifically trap any other errors that might come from their API. Additionally they can change these error codes at any time and we are stuck again with a cryptic error that needs to be chased down. As it stands, these errors we'll be left as they come from the API.

Thanks for the explanation, Matthew. Understood.

May I recommend that these errors be documented and the "plain English" equivalent be explained? I recognize that the API may change the format/content of the messages, but that would necessitate only a relatively simple documentation update.

This approach acknowledges that the messages are not always obvious in meaning, offers help to NinjaTrader clients, and is easily managed and cost-effective.
