Can you have a release candidate when there are known bugs that have not been fixed?

From wikipedia:
I understand there is public pressure to get a final version, but calling a version a RC when it still has known bugs isn't going to help the image. The betas are very stable and work great, take your time for the final version so that it works great and people won't complain about it.The term release candidate (RC) refers to a version with potential to be a final product, ready to release unless fatal bugs emerge. In this stage of product stabilization, all product features have been designed, coded and tested through one or more beta cycles with no known showstopper-class bug.

I certainly hope there will be more candidates. People have really criticized NT 6.5 in the past and I would like for 7.0 final to be perfect.Originally posted by JS999 View PostOn a related note, can we expect to see more RC releases (RC2, RC3, etc.), or is NT planning on releasing the production version straight from this RC1 candidate?
And then maybe they can get to improving their DOM. I've been using X_Trader and there are lots of things that could be improved.

I'm not sure that it really makes a difference whether they call the next release RC2 or call it "final" code, since it's going to be the same code in any case. NT 6.5 is still having bug fixes pushed out years into production, and that is actually normal for every piece of software.Originally posted by cunparis View PostI certainly hope there will be more candidates. Releasing the production version at this point is probably better, since there will be more people starting to use it, and therefore more bugs will be found and ironed out more quickly. Keeping it in Beta isn't going to help anyone, since there will just be less people testing it. Criticism is really NT's problem and not ours, so from our perspective as users it just makes sense to have as many people using the product as possible right now.Last edited by JS999; 11-29-2010, 01:32 PM.
