re-install of version 7 won't start
I first installed version 7 back in Sept. as a new user, experimented with it a bit using Yahoo data, and then got distracted from using it for a while. Yesterday I tried to resume my NT experience, but the program wouldn't start. Specifically, the splash screen would appear and there was a NT process visible in Windows Task Manager, but the UI never appeared. I found several threads in the forum reporting start up issues, so 1st I tried the uninstall/reinstall steps (see http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/f...+won%27t+start) but obviously couldn't remove the script assemblies because the program won't start. NT7 still won't start, same symptoms. My PC is 64-bit, I also installed NT7 on my 64-bit laptop, it appears to be OK there. How do I fix my desktop PC so NT will run?Tags: None

Hello auburnrose55,
See below for complete uninstall instructions. You need to delete the My Documents\NinjaTrader 7 folder to remove any custom items.
If you continue to have issues, can you post or email your trace file to [email protected], Attn: 393456.
Your trace file will let us know where in the startup process it's getting stalled.
My Documents\NinjaTrader 7\trace\trace.20101111.txt- Close all running applications.
- Then from the Start menu select --> Control Panel --> Add and Remove Programs.
- From Add and Remove Programs select NinjaTrader 7 and click Remove.
- Then manually delete the folder "NinjaTrader 7" located under Start --> My Documents.
- Delete any NinjaTrader installation files. This can be done by going to Start --> My Computer --> Search button --> search for (NinjaTrader*) --> select Local C Disk and then press search.
- Then you will need to clear your internet browser cache and history. You will clear this from within your internet browser (with IE, Tools-->Options, delete cookies and files, clear history).
- Reboot your machine.
- Once these steps are completed, download NT7 from the link below:

error on start
I tried the steps exactly as documented. This time I got this error message: "Ninja Trader has detected a problem and needs to shut down. Information has been written to the trace file. Please restart Ninja Trader and send us an email via Help > Mail to Support and include information on how you may have encountered this problem. This email will automatically embed the relevent trace file information to help us diagnose the problem"
Trace file is attached.
BTW I forgot to mention I'm running Win7 64-bitAttached Files

Hello aunurnrose55,
I checked your trace file and it lists the crash below.
2010-11-11 16:43:36:265 ********* exception trapped *********
2010-11-11 16:43:36:265 The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open.
This crash indicates your virus scanner or another application locks files in the (My) Documents-->NinjaTrader 7 folder. NinjaTrader will need to write to this folder.
Please make sure to configure your virus scanner or other application so that none of the files in directory above would be locked or remove that directory from the scanning list.

Hello,
Thanks for posting the trace file.
Here is what I found:
2010-11-11 16:43:36:265 System.IO.IOException: The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open.
This error indicates that when NinjaTrader needed to access the database it was prevented due to anti virus software in most cases or automatic backup software.
What anti virus are you running? Please locate the option to add the My Documents->NinjaTrader 7 folder to the AntiVirus Excluded directy list for the active file scanner or the resident shield/realtime protection shield.
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.BrettNinjaTrader Product Management

error on start
Thank you both, Jason & Brett. I am using the free version of AVG AntiVirus on both my PC and laptop. NT does start on the laptop, it does NOT start on the PC. Both PC & laptop are Win7 64-bit. That would imply that AVG is not the issue, since it is not interfering with NT on the laptop. I just tried running NT again on my PC, ensuring that AVG was not running in the background - NT still fails.
I also use Carbonite automatic backup on the PC, but not on the laptop. Please note that in September when I first was using NT, there was no apparent conflict with Carbonite or AVG. However, I did try disabling the Documents>Ninja Trader 7 , and the Documents>Ninja Trader 7 folders from Carbonite's backup - this had no effect, the error still occured. The NT folders in C:Program Files (x86) were never included in the Carbonite backup, I have Carbonite backing up only data files.
So, in summary, with Carbonite not touching any NT7 files and AVG not running in the background, NT7 still will not start on my PC. On my laptop, with the same OS and version of AVG, NT7 WILL start.
Any more suggestions?

Hello again,
I looked at all the processes running in Windows Task Manager and tried stopping any that might lock system resources. When I killed the background processes associated with Apricorn, which is a system backup/snapshot utility, then NT7 was able to start. Please note that the Apricorn background processes would have been active back in September also, so something changed between then & now to cause NT7 to no longer work when Apricorn was in the background.
Going forward, disabling Apricorn background processes is not a long-term issue for me, so I think this issue is resolved.
Thanks for your quick responses.
