    RC1 and inconsistent synchronization

    Hello,

I am using RC1 and my time zone is London (GMT), and would like to report a bug related to the synchronization of two bar objects in a multi time-frame chart.

As you can see in the attached files, the 240 Min bars and the Daily bars on the same instrument (here the $USDJPY, although I have tried with others such as the ES 12-10 and I get the same problem) provide inconsistent results when hovering around the intraday bar closing at 10:00am:

    1. The first picture shows the correct date (09-Nov-2010), and shows the current bar for the 240 Min and the Daily bars (i.e. 510 and 85 respectively, using last 100 days of data in both charts). Nothing wrong here.

    2. The second picture shows the wrong date (08-Nov-2010) on the Data Box, even though other values for the current bar of the 240 Min and Daily charts appear to be correct.

    3. In the last picture, the date is now correct again (09-Nov-2010) but the current bar for the Daily chart is now missing (i.e. N/A) in the Data Box. Also note the time on the Cross Hair cursor (i.e. 10:36am) appears to be inconsistent with the time stamp of the 240 Min bar (i.e. 10:00am).

Please refer it to the programmers asap so that they can fix the problem.

    Many thanks,

    Hi Stopped,

    Thank you for your post.

Can you please clarify which data provider you are using, and for each instrument can you please right click and then select Data Series. Please check the Session Template and let me know which settings you are presently using.

With that information I will test this issue on my end. Also, can you please sync your PC clock. You can sync your PC clock by double clicking on the clock in the lower right corner of your desktop. Once you have done that, click on Internet Time tab and then click Update. Your PC clock should now be updated.

      Hi RyanOlson,

I am using IQFeed. Both the 240 Min and the Daily charts are using the default template "use instrument settings" (in this case "Forex"). By the way, I was using 120 days of data in both cases (from 13-Jul-2010 to 09-Nov-2010), not the 100 that I reported earlier. As advised I have also manually re-synchronised the clock to Internet Time, although my PC was already set to automatically do so anyway.

Thanks for looking into this, and I look forward to your findings.

        Hi Stopped,

        Thank you for that clarification.

On your daily chart can you please change your session template to Default 24/7 and then compare the two charts. Please keep in mind that the Daily bars are going to built differently due to the data that comprises the bar.

With IQFeed forex data the bars though should represent the entire forex trading day.

          Hello again,

Changing the template on the Daily chart to Default 24/7 makes things even worse.

Honestly, make your checks, etc. but this looks like a serious bug, plain and simple.

            Stopped,

Can you please send a note from the applications Mail To Support in the Help menu of the Control Center and include the trace and log files and the workspace along with the database and also provide any other steps you can think of to reproduce this.

As I consistantly get the correct date when I test this on my side connected to IQFeed, with a 2 series chart one 240 min 120 days back with Forex session template and a 1 day USDJPY chart and I consistantly get correct data series date in the databox.

What time zone if your computer in also what region is your computer in also include this information when you send the note in with your files.

            Thanks for the report.

              Hi Brett,

Before I send anything else, please do the following: load the two data series (240 Min as primary and Daily as secondary) onto the same chart, load the Data Box and use the Cross Hair cursor to check the values on the Data Box as you move along the chart. Do the values related to the Daily bar change right at the end of the intraday session or somehow halfway in between? In my case, Daily values keep flicking halfway through any given intraday session, which is obviously wrong.

I am in the London (GMT) time zone.

Thanks and let me know if you still needed to look at my trace files and workspaces.

                Hi Stopped,

In reproducing the issue I am able to create a chart with a Daily and 240 minute interval and using the Forex Session Template.

When adding indicators and setting the Calculate on Bar Close to True and I am able to see the present day and when I move my cross-hair cursor the date in the databox updates, as well as the indicator values. I also see a current daily bar, and bars for the 240 minute chart with the current date.

As a result I am not able to duplicate this on my end so using your workspace we would like to duplicate the issue. When using the Mail to Support feature in the Help menu please select to include the Log and Trace Files, Database and Workspaces.

                  Hello again,

I am writing e-mail to support just now with access to files, etc.

The problem is summarised in the two attached screenshots:

Sync1: Here is a multi time-frame (240 Min and Daily) chart loaded with the custom BarIndex indicator, which happens to have a secondary data series of daily data (same as the data series displayed in Panel 3). As you can see in the Output Window, here both Bars objects seem to be correctly synchronized even though the Data Box is showing the wrong date (i.e. 09-Nov-2010) when hovering on bar 511 of the intraday chart.

Sync2: Here is a one-series 240 Min chart loaded with the same BarIndex indicator. As you can see in the Output Window, the primary and secondary Bars objects are incorrectly synchronized as the secondary series CurrentBar only gets to 83, when the last value should have been 84 as we saw above. Intriguingly, the date on the Data Box corresponding to the 511 bar of the intraday chart is now correct (i.e. 10-Nov-2010).

Thanks for looking into this problem.

                    Hi Stopped,

Thank you for those screenshots, and I will keep an eye out for those files so that we can test this issue in greater detail.

Please make sure when sending that information you include a reference to this forum so that we can review the information contained in both places while working to duplicate this issue.
