    Chart Template Default

I understand the benefit of having different defaults by Period Type - but don't see that it is functioning as advertised. After following the on-line directions to set a new default for Ticks - when I tried to bring up a new window that was of type Tick - the Chart Template was still set to 'None'.

I know v7 allows you to save as the default - but always see the 'None' when trying to create a new Chart.

    Please Advise.

    Hello OhTrader,

    Thank you for your post.

These settings are not related to a chart template. The Save As period type dialog is meant to preserve your Load Data based on and Days to load settings. If you frequently use the same settings for minute charts, you can save this.

      Ryan,

The gist of my question is still why, in V6 when I create a template I could define that template as the Default - and automatically whenever I create a new chart that template had made the default was displayed - as follows is shown in the file "v6 chart created".

In v7 RC I can save different templates, and even save them as the default. The issue comes in when you are creating a new chart and want to use the Default automatically - but v7 is not automatically populating it that way. When you create a v7 chart the chart, v7 automatically generates the Data Series box with the Chart Template set to "NONE". So you have to manually set it to the Default, or one of your other choices every time. I would think that once you have defined a Default that it would be just that - what is automatically displayed in the Data Series box (not NONE) when a new chart is being created.

        Hello Ohtrader,

You can have a template as default.

You must first save it as default. Right click on a chart > Save as default. Be sure to do this on a chart and not the data series screen. The data series screen is a different type of template.

Then, the new chart dialog will have the default template selected.

          Ryan:

You are still missing my point. I said I know how to generate the new chart templates in my prior post. See reference to:
In v7 RC I can save different templates, and even save them as the default.
          So, what I'm asking is:
          1. Is NT v7 going to have the facility for new charts to be created automatically with a default Chart Template (e.g. you don't have to manually move the template type from NONE)?
          2. If yes, where is this facility configured (I understand that a lot more of the chart configurability has been moved up to being visible at chart creation time - whereas this functionality was accessed in Properties in v6) - so if this configuration is not at the chart creation stage - where else is it located?

            1) Yes, you can do this now. I'm not sure why yours is working differently.

Have you saved a chart as default? Right click on your chart > Templates > Save as Default

You can only have one default, and this default is automatically loaded into the Chart template selection when you create a new chart (you don't have to switch from none).

If you're still having issues with this, please send a note to [email protected] Attn: 388797. We can arrange a phone call with remote to check out your setup.
