    Changes in nameing a strategy

    Greets!

After installing NT7b22 I immediately noticed two new behaviours that I find very annoying. Is it just me or ???

    1. I cannot copy and paste a line from the strategy to the name field in the 'save as' in the strategy 'save as' dialogue (I have been able to do that since NT6.5.10 at least)

    2. Underscores '_' cannot be part of the strategy name (have been for some time AFAIK)

Please advise if this expected and if it can be returned back to past nameing behaviour.

    Thanks,
    TJ

TJ, those changes are unfortunately expected with NT7 - for the 'save as', please click 'View Code' and then right click in the code opend and select 'Save As' to save a copy of the strategy to a new name.

RT CLK in the editor does not show a 'view code' ... you are confusing me

'expected'? Everything worked right up to && including beta20 ... respectfully requesting return to 'ease of use'

        Hello,

You must manually type in the strategy names and we no no longer allow - in the strategy names as this was causing some issues unfortunately. I believe what bert was reference is that when you right click on the NinjaScript Text Editor and select save as you will not need to type in the name manually.

Unfortunately this was specifically changed and is intended.

I was wondering what was causing this bug - that's what I call an undesired loss in functionality - a "bug".

          Issues... what issues?

It's always worked fine for me until this most recent beta.

There's got to be a more clever way to handle whatever the "issue" was than to eliminate useful functionality.

KBJ, unfortunately Brett is correct and the design change was needed, it's listed in our release notes as well -

            Fixed
            4094
            NinjaScript
Right click -> 'Save As' in NinjaScript Editor didn't restrict naming filenames to numbers and digits.

Why does NinjaTrader should need to be more restrictive than Microsoft on this?

Microsoft file naming conventions are very specific on this subject:

And a little further down on the same page Microsoft explicitly lists the special characters that are allowed in filenames:

And as we can see, the "underscore" is an allowed character in a filename.

Over the last 3.75 years, and up until this beta (7.0.0.22), I've successfully created and/or downloaded a total of 312 NinjaTrader indicators and strategies that contain underscores in their filenames (with never a problem.)

So, what's up that NinjaTrader can no longer accept underscores? (Why? What problem does this solve? Can you elaborate on this, please!)

And turning off Paste? Wow - NinjaTrader has definitely taken a couple of steps backwards here.

Is there some way that someone there can think this through and come up with a creative handling that will not break this for everyone who has been using this naming convention and cut and paste?

              KBJ

P.S. I've been professionally programming and developing for 35+ years and I know from experience that when I tell a user 'no' and then 'definitely no' and then 'no f'-ing way', that if they get me to re-examine the code and the problem (and I do a good job of it), there always is a way to do it. So please have another look at this. Thanks.
