    strategy vs indictor

I searched for the answer to my question but did not find a thread addressing my question

could someone please give me a basic overview of the difference(s) between a strategy and an indicator?

I am developing a solution and want to verify that developing it as a indicator is appropriate

    Hello Umaniac,

There is overlap here, but generally:
    • Indicators offer greater plot/chart control.
    • Strategies are used to conditionally place orders. They have most all the same methods and properties as indicators and also include order placement methods.

If you need to route orders to an account and track positions then you would use a strategy. Otherwise indicators should work for you.

See below for details of the methods available within each.

    Indicators.
