    Crazy data load on connection

I run NT b7 v21 once a day of an afternoon to see where the currency markets are at. As soon as I connect to my data supplier (interactive brokers) my screens go black and they say loading, just like usual under 6.5. Once the charts start coming up on each one i get a bunch of flat line candles since the last time I ran NT, then one massive candle on the "current" price bar.

If i scroll back the previous data appears to be uncorrupted. The only way I have found to deal with this is that I have to go into historical data manager and reload the last day of each individual instrument, which is a pain as I look at twelve currency pairs. It also takes a bit of time. I never had this issue under 6.5, it would just load the candles since last time the program was connected.

I only load currency charts and I only use ib for my data, so not sure if either or both of those are part of the mix, but as I said, never had this problem under 6.5. If anyone has any suggestions?? I have compacted, rebuild the database etc. but that didn't make any difference. Its a pretty new install of the v7 anyway.

    Thanks,
    Jay.

    Hello Jay,

Can you please tell me what interval is selected in the charts. Does it make a difference if you select a different interval?

Instead of reloading historical data via the Historical Data Manager, can you please right click in a chart and select 'Reload All Historical Data'. Does it correct the data as well?

Could you perhaps post a screenshot of such a chart.

What happens if you create a forex chart after you are connected to IB?

      Excellent questions.

Thanks for the quick reply. Excellent questions, I only look at 30 min charts so i tried it with 5 min, 10 min and 60 min. Seems to give the same error without difference. Attached is a screencapture of a few of the charts as they appear after I connect and the chart loads. It's all bad!!

I can right click in the chart and do the reload historical data option. This downloads the whole data series again though, not just the last day or two. I find just loading the last day or two much quicker, especially as I have multiple charts. Agreed It does fix the chart, but its not an ideal solution.

When I create a chart from scratch it takes a while to download the whole chart and then appears fine. It's only as I said, when a chart has data and is stopped when i close my computer down, then reload it up the next day.

        Hello Jay,

Can you please remove the 3rd party indicators from the chart and check if the issue remains.

It seems historical data for the current day is plotted at prices far away from where the current price is. This causes the large current bar. The current price is correct, however the historical data for the current day seems to be incorrect.

Please ensure you have TWS version 906 installed as per the IB connection guide at the link below.

          Removed indicators

I removed all indicators and left just price, then connected. I was quite interested to see if it would work because it seemed likely to me that it was an incompatibility between my indicators and the new beta, but unfortunately it turned out that after i connected i had the same issues on a plain chart.

As for build 906 from interactive brokers that may be a problem. I checked and i do have the latest build (908). I went onto IB's website and the only other version they have available for download is 907. I then followed your link to the NT page and clicked on the 906 link but that doesn't work now, probably because their web page doesn't seem to have version 906 available any more. Any ideas on where I can go to get 906?? If not I guess I will just have to live with this issue. That or change data provider, which i'm not likely to do any time soon as I get my real time data for free by using them as my broker.

            Hello Jay,

The link to download TWS 906 on the IB connection guide works on my end.

Could you please clear your browser cache and try again.

              Build 906

Thanks for the link. Uninstalled TWS and cleared browser cache and rebooted. Installed build 906 and followed the user guide.

After loading NT i connected and straight away got the following message "Error on loading chart data for $AUDUSD Default. No security definition has been found for the request." When I clicked ok I got the same message again for $EURGBP. Not sure what that means, I know IB has those instruments, they are pretty mainstream currencies, nothing exotic. I only got those two though, out of my 12 major currency charts.

I'm not sure if it makes any difference but those two charts are the far left charts on my screen. Possibly the first charts that NT loads??.

Anyway, I closed NT and IB then reloaded. I was interested to see if there was a problem with those chatrs so before connecting I closed them. On connection I got a similar message for another currency and then had the same error.

              Sigh.

                Scaling.

Oh I forgot to mention something. On a couple of the charts even after I have reloaded the price data for the last day on the chart all the price data data is flat. If I go back just one candle it expands out to normal, but then when I go back to current candle if all goes flat again.

If I go back a candle, then drag the scale so I get the F icon, then forward to the current candle, I can see the candle fine. i.e. the scaling when just on the current candle seems to be an issue. I am just using the standard scaling defaults. i.e. from right clicking on the scale and going properties, the settings are "automatic" range and based on "screen date range". type = "points" and margin = "percent". Perhaps I need to play with these settings to get rid of the error?

                  jdsfund,

What I suspect is your real-time data is coming in at an exceptionally higher price than your historical data and thus causing the charts to skew upwards.

Can you please try resetting your instruments in Tools>Options>Data?
