Performance question NT7 on Core 2 Duo T5600

I am going to be getting the following laptop as a quick backup computer in case my primary connection goes down:

However, I would also like to run some additional charts on it on an external monitor. It will have 4 GB of RAM installed, and the processor is a Core 2 Duo T5600. I plan to run approximately 15-20 charts, mostly a combination of 5 minute charts with a couple of EMAs on them, set to CalcBarClose = false. They will all be looking around 2 days back in terms of data, and I plan to have them all updating at a frequency of around 0.3 seconds in terms of refresh rate.

Can anyone comment on whether or not this setup would be too much for the processor of this laptop to handle, or should it be fine? I can get a more powerful CPU if I need it, but there is no need for overkill if I won't need the extra processing power. Is anyone running something similar?

    Thanks!

P.S. This will be on a Zen-Fire connection, displaying data for approximately 8 to 12 different futures contracts. It will be running Windows XP.

    Hi JS999,

    Thank you for your post.

As I see it, the setup you linked to should be sufficient to run the setup you describe. That said, I'd also be interested to see what comments you receive from other users.

I run Ninja 6.5 on a laptop with a Dual Core T9400 cpu (Clock speed 2.53GHZ with 6M of L2 cache). I use a lot of charts and Ninja is fine. The processor in the system you were asking about has a somewhat lower clock spped and a smaller L2 cache but that should not be a big problem.

However, the one thing I would be careful about is the system you are looking at has the Intel integrated graphics system. The laptop I am now using was purchased to replace one that had the same type of graphics system because when the market get "really active" I would see video delays including just white screens where the charts were. My current laptop has a discrete graphics adpater (Nvidia in my case but an ATI adapter would be fine also) and I do not have that type of problem. I would strongly suggest getting a laptop with something other than the Intel graphics.

As an aside - the Intel graphics are fine if all you are doing is web surfing, word processing, etc.

        I have HPdv6775US

        specs here: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/expired-deals/802283/

I guess I'm slower, Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5450 operating at 1.67GHz
and running windows vista with 3 gb.

I usually find myself around 1 gb upon bootup, and average 1.6 - 2.3 gb ram used when running firefox, ie, and ninja trader. using only 4 charts, so it appears to do fine with that.

        2 things to note:

        1) laptop battery recall. Mine is involved in the 5/19/2010.. still haven't sent it in. I've on a double sized rayovac battery. I think I can get about 5-6 hours with that battery goofing around in ninjatrader replay on 2 charts. But I'm usually tired by hour 4..

The owner of this domain has not yet uploaded their website.

        2) some nvidia cards have 'problems' and are involved in a somewhat complicated recall. My laptop appears to be working fine, so I don't think I qualify yet for the class action suit. (googling will let you know which models are affected).

Some folks may have long forgotten about the issue by now, but anyone that was hit by those defective NVIDIA GPUs a couple of years back will likely want to take notice -- the company has finally reached a settlement in the class action lawsuit spurred on by the issue, and anyone with an affected Apple, Dell or HP laptop is eligible for some form of compensation. In the case of Apple and Dell laptops, that includes a replacement of the GPU or MCP, while users of an affected HP laptop will actually get a full replacement laptop "similar in kind and value." Anyone that has already paid to have their laptop repaired due to the GPU issue is also entitled to a full reimbursement provided they have the necessary documentation for the repairs. Even if you are covered, however, you'll still have to wait a bit longer to actually get any compensation -- a final hearing is scheduled for December 20th, and claims will only begin sometime after that. In the meantime, be sure to hit up the source link below for the complete details, including a list of all the models affected. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

I agree with the other guy, the onboard INTEL graphics chipset might not be fast enough.

It's really pathetic to go to Best Buy, get on a AMD Phenom II X6 computer with crap graphics, and see painting issues on the screen when moving windows.

Just an update, this computer worked fine with the setup I described above...
