    Very regrettably – back to a 6.5 issue

    Firstly a qualification: This occurred yesterday with b20 not b21.

    I trialled NT v6.5 with the view to algo trading and decided against proceeding due to stability issues. However, I was and still am very impressed by NT’s attempt to be all things to all people. Hence I have had v7 running some simple strategies to monitor its stability. It is greatly improved, however yesterday NT took a significant (massive) step backwards.

    NT crashed. That’s ok it’s a beta;
    Restarted NT;
    Reconnected to eSignal;
    Re enabled strategies;
    All ok;
    Well that is what I thought.
    No error messages and I could see bars changing on a chart.
    On another screen, I have a FX cash market feed.
    I noticed a significant spread between the EUR/USD on the cash market and the NT chart for 6E Z10.
    Initially I thought Christmas had arrived early.
    Just prior to leaping, I looked at the 6E Z10 chart in eSignal. It was within a few pips of the cash market, but not the NT chart.
    Closer checking revealed that NT was lagging by several minutes.
    Note: I was comparing a 1min 6E Z10 chart in both eSignal and NT 7b20 and NT was using the same eSignal feed.
    Most importantly, no error messages in NT!!!!
    Need to augment the code guys. Cannot have this situation with algo trading.
    Left running over night, initially because I could not be bothered to resolve at the time. By the next morning, it was lagging 34 minutes.

    BCGAU, thanks much for reporting in to us here - can you please forward your trace / log files via the Help > Mail to Support feature so we can review the crash you ran into and late chart update issues?

    Thanks

          Hi Bertrand

          Some additional info and a few questions.

          As per my annotations in the log and trace file I did not understand the references to certain strategies and open positions.

          Today I looked at the "Positions" tab on Control Center and found two open positions. Presumably left over from a test some time ago.
          I right clicked and selected "Flatten Everything".
          A dialog displayed advising "eSignal, There is no market data to drive the simulation engine".
          NT had connection (green on Control Center status bar), charts where updating, and on checking my logging all up to date.
          I tried the other position, same result.
          Next tried "Close Position" same result.
          Whilst this was confusing, what happened next was very strange.
          NT stopped the running strategies. The ones doing the logging, the same ones that had been working correctly since market open on Sunday afternoon without issue.
          However Control Center status bar remained green and charts continued to update.

          So my questions:
          1) Why / How could the original error message occur?
          2) Why, and under what conditions, would running strategies be stopped by NT?
          3) How should these old positions be removed?

          Kind Regards Bruce

            Hi Bruce, for which contracts were those 'left over' positions, could they be expired by now so there's simply no data available?

            The 'Flatten Everything' you issued invoked the stopping of running strategies as well.

            If those positions are on the simulator, a reset of the simulation account would clear them up for you (Tools > Options > Simulator).
