Impact of beta 21 upgrade on charts using 3rd party indicators

I noticed the upgrade instructions for beta 21 indicated that 3rd party software will need to be reinstalled. If I upgrade to beta 21 and reinstall the 3rd party indicators I use before opening any workspaces, will my charts be intact, or will chart references to the 3rd party indicators be lost during the upgrade? And if references will be lost, can I get around that by creating templates for all my charts?

I'm just trying to avoid any potential nasty surprises when I upgrade, so I thought I should ask about this. Safety first....

Mike, from which version are you upgrading? Those would be the recommended steps if you were running B15 or earlier.

That's interesting. Release notes at http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/h...ease_notes.htm say there's critical information regarding the need to uninstall a prior version that can be ignored if upgrading from beta 16 or later. But the critical release notes at http://www.ninjatrader-support2.com/nt7Beta/ say it's mandatory to uninstall any prior version. Which is correct?

Correct, you would need to clean reinstall including to delete the Program Files related folder so important DLL's are ensured to install correctly, however this would not touch any custom 3rd party indicators as they are installed under MyDocumens > NinjaTrader 7.

        Thanks

I still think you need to straighten out the conflicting information contained in the two web pages I referenced previously. One says there's critical information re uninstalling previous versions before upgrading to beta 21, but it can safely be ignored if upgrading from beta 16 or later. The other says it's necessary to uninstall in all cases. It really should be clear whether or not it's necessary to uninstall.

Also, the document http://www.ninjatrader-support2.com/nt7Beta/ is confusing. Would you clarify for me, please, if the paragraph that begins ONLY AFTER applies to all upgrades, or only to upgrades from beta 15 and earlier?

Mike, for both upgrade way a uninstall / reinstall is needed - however if you just upgrade from 16 or higher the MyDocuments folder can be left as is (no protector changes).

The part you cite is relevant for installs upgrading from 15 or earlier.

Thanks, that's what I thought. But please do note that the release notes say you can skip uninstalling a prior version if upgrading from beta 16 or later. So if uninstalling is required, the release notes are wrong. (The release notes also contain a link to video installation instructions that doesn't work.)

Yes, this unfortunately correct - thanks for spotting - this section was added for the ZenFire 64 bit DLL issues we identified very shortly after release.
