Recently my charts does not load properly.

    Hello everyone,

I`m currently trading in simulator mode with NT7. I`ve had beta 13 until today when I upgraded to beta 20, to try to resolve my problem.

I have not used it consistently, but I never experienced any problems until just recently. I suspected that it could be my under par internet connection (temporary), but today I decided to load the same charts in NT6.5 and I experienced no issues there; price is moving constantly and the charts look clean.

The problem I experience is that my charts does not load properly and they do not seem to refresh constantly either (it looks as price freezes up).

The last days when I`ve opened my charts, the last bar is always a price spike, but it is not real because it is the charts that misrepresent the data somehow.

An example can be seen on the picture I attached.

Any ideas what this could be?

    Thanks in advance,

    Johnny

Johnny please go to Tools -> Options -> Data -> and set the Merge Policy to DoNotMerge. It appears as if NinjaTrader's automatic merging tool isn't quite working correctly today, so when you use DoNotMerge, it will only grab data for the actual contract you are charting/trading, and not for the older contracts.

      Thanks Austin,

I tried doing that and the charts definitely changed, but they did not look "correct".

I switched back to "merge" and now the previous part of the charts look "correct", but there is a huge spike on the last bar, which as far as I can tell is not real.

Did you reload the historical data? If no, please right-click the chart and select Reload All Historical data and see if that does the trick.

The spike is there because it is trying to reconcile the different contract's price, but it doesn't yet have enough information to do so correctly.

          I did try that.

Attached is a 1-minute chart of the ES contract. The 5-minute chart looks similar, with many "flat" candles.

Johnny, "flat" candles are not "incorrect" candles. They are flat because only one trade occurred during that time period, or there was more than one trade, but they happened at the same price. Therefore, since there is only one price point to pull data from, the open = high = low = close = flat candle.

              Austin,

I`m well aware of what a "Doji" is

But to have that many flat candles on a 1-minute chart of the ES contract is highly unlikely.

On the 5-minute chart there are three doji`s in a row. 15 minutes where the ES contract traded without moving a tick?

I will now try to get another chart from another vendor to double check, but just by reasoning I am 99% sure that these charts are not correct.

              Best regards,

              Johnny

The current ES contract is still September, so there is very little volume on ES 12-10. This would be expected behavior. My feed shows only 13,230 contracts were traded on ES 12-10 and roughly 1.26 million contracts on ES 09-10.

Please try ES 12-10 after the rollover occurs.

                  Austin,

Now I officially feel very stupid. NT has somehow started loading the December contract without me being aware of it. It was not intentional on my part.

Thank you for having patience with my ignorance

                  Best regards,

                  Johnny

Not a problem, Johnny. Glad to hear you've got it all figured out now. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
