    Z Order controls

Guys, regarding ways to control Z Order:

    1) I have tried a few touchpad tricks, but so far have no way to emulate a mouse wheel click-and-roll+Shift to change the Z order of a selected indicator using a touchpad. Could you please introduce an alternate means of reaching the Z order control? Perhaps "Z Order" on the right-click pop-up menu to go with "Remove" and "Properties" when an indicator is selected on chart? For those of us using laptops, it would allow us to change Z order without having to attach an external mouse.

    2) The Z order is initially set by the order of indicators in the lower pane of the Indicators window list. Could we be given a way to move items up and down in this list and thereby change the Z order? Up-Down arrows next to the "Remove" and "New" buttons would be nice. It would help to be able to change orders in this list for other reasons as well -- e.g., move an indicator to the top of the list so that it is automatically highlighted when the Indicators window opens.

Thank you for your help. I'm enjoying NT7 very much...

    Best wishes,

    Light

    Hi Light,

    Thank you for your post.

I have seen this issue recently, and what you can try doing is modifying your mouse settings. I know with some laptop touchpads you can simulate a middle mouse scroll wheel by using the side of the touchpad. However, this may not be available with all laptops.

I have provided the steps below to help with the configuration.
    • Start Menu
    • Control Panel
    • Mouse
    • Buttons
    • Under the buttons tab you should have an option to make the middle mouse wheel a button.

Additionally, I have forwarded these suggestions to development as a possible future enhancement to NinjaTrader.

Thanks Ryan. I have a new laptop with Synaptics TouchPad V7.2 on Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit. I have changed the button options to allow a right button click to represent a "Middle click," which is the equivalent of a mouse-wheel click. After the change, right-clicking on chart brings up the mini data window, as it should. But I am still unable to reach the Z-Order popup option. Clicking an indicator to select it, then pressing the middle-click assigned button, with the Shift key pressed (or not) results in an NT7 error message box saying "You currently have a chart object selected. You must deselect this object for the Mini Data Box to appear."

Do you know of anyone who has successfully reached the Z order popup option using just a touchpad?

      Thanks again for your help,

      Light

        Hi Light,

In the mouse settings may be an option to enable Scroll Zone, which you could then use. Typically, these zones are on the sides of the touchpad, and if enabled you should be able to use the touchpad for scrolling the z-options in NinjaTrader charts.

I am not familiar with other users resolutions regarding this issue as it will be PC specific.

Thanks again for your help Ryan. I have tried numerous permutations of enabling scrolling and middle click with control panel options, and none of them get me beyond the NT7 popup warning I mentioned earlier. If I find a solution, I'll post it here. But at this point, to my knowledge, the only way to change Z order from a chart on my laptop (new Toshiba L675, Win 7 Home Premium) is with an external mouse. I hope NT includes additional access to the Z order changing function in a later release.

Thank you again for your help,

          Light

            Hi Light,

I have provided this information to development to be included as a possible future enhancement, but if you are unable to simulate the scroll with a touchpad then an external mouse will be necessary to edit the levels of your chart display.
