    Downgrading to 6.5 for live trading

    Hey

    First off I'm not sure if this is the right place to post so please feel free to move if not.

    I have been developing and testing strategies in NT7 for some time now and I have finally found a working system. However, I find NT7 quite unstable as I often get weird behavior and/or crashes. I would like to migrate my strategies to NT6.5 for live trading purposes. How should I proceed?? I have tried exporting from 7 and importing into 6.5 but that doesn't work. I've also tried to do so manually but there seem to be significant differences that generate error that I cannot resolve.

    Thank you for your post.

    Unfortunately there is not an option to migrate information within NinjaTrader 7 to NinjaTrader 6.5.

    Can you please clarify the issues you are experiencing within NinjaTrader 7 so I may further assist.

      Well for example I came into the office today and I checked my pnl for the current day (using Account Performance > Trades > and setting the range to today 23-23). However, some of the trades that were displayed took place on the 20th (enter and exit on the 20th) and therefore my cumulative profit for the day was all messed up.

      I also get crashes from time to time that will force me to restart NT and then all my strategies get messed up because I have open positions and then I have to reactivate my strategies and NT has a hard time synchronizing my open position. For example, I tried to export a strategy (very simple, no custom indicators or anything) and NT crashed. I also tried to open a chart in the Account Performance tab (right click on trade) and NT crashed.

      Basically, I love all the work done on NT7 and I use it every day, but for trading purposes, I would greatly appreciate a more stable platform so such bugs don't cost our firm a small fortune.

        Can you please tell me what version of NinjaTrader you currently have installed by going to Help-->About. If you do not have NinjaTrader 7.0.0.19 installed please upgrade at the link I have provided below.



        Please let me know if the issues continue after upgrading to the most recent Beta release.

          Ok just updated to .19

          However, I still find trades from other days when looking in account perf > trades > from 7/23/2010 to 7/23/2010

            Can you please go to Documents-->NinjaTrader 7-->Open the db folder and let me know the size of the NinjaTrader.sdf file.

                Ok I just did a little research and realized that all the times where I had dates other than the range specified it related to a specific strategy and contract. I'm gonna look into this to see what could be going wrong with that particular strategy.

                    Ok I have looked through the strategy as well as the setting in the Strategies tab and I have no idea why it would be acting out of whack. The strategy is supposed to exit on close so in theory I should never have multi-day trades (which is what the Account Performance seems to be showing).

                      Can you please upload your NinjaTrader.sdf file to sendspace with the steps I have provided below:.
                      • Please go to http://www.sendspace.com/flashupload.html
                      • Click "Add a File" and browse to Documents\NinjaTrader 6.5 or 7 and highlight the file you wish to upload click "open"
                      • Repeat the step above for multiple files
                      • Leave "Recipient's email" and "Your email" blank
                      • Check "I have read and agree to the terms and conditions" and click "Start upload"
                      • When the upload has finished you will see "Download Link:" copy the link after this http://www.sendspace.com/file/>???????

                      Next please send a note to Support [AT] NinjaTrader [DOT] com with "ATTN: Chris" in the subject line.

                      In the message, please include the following:
                      1.) A link to this forum thread.
                      2.) Your most current trace and log files.
                      3.) The link received from Sendspace
                      4.) The instrument that is showing trades on the 20th

                      You will find the file here: My Documents > NinjaTrader 7 > Trace > trace.YYYYMMDD.txt

                      Log file will be located by going to Documents->NinjaTrader 7->Log->log.YYYYMMDD.txt

                        Just before I do this I just thought of something. This problem seems to have occurred sometime in the last few days. Furthermore, I have recently change the option the attempt to sync the account positions from no to yes. I wonder if this might have something to do with it. A few days ago, I had an open position and NT crashed so when I reopened I had an open position but my strategy was disabled. When I activated the strategy and saw that it didn't recognize my existing position, I looked into it and saw the option so I changed this option to yes for all my strategies. I wonder if this may explain the strange behavior in the past few days.

                        If you think not, then I will go ahead and send you the appropriate files.

                          I have talked to someone on our development team and the "SyncAccountPosition" does not influence account performance. Please forward me the NinjaTrader.sdf file as well as the log and trace files for the 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd so we may take a look into the issue further.

                            Problem is persisting, now with other instruments. I entered a trade today at 1030 and exited at 1500. I lost 5 ticks on it (on instrument FGBL). However, if I look at my account performance for the day, it says I made 368.00 (not the case), says I entered 7/23/2010 (when I entered today - and I am also looking at trades for today only as specified in the from:to and it says the number of bars in -54!

                            Whats going on?
