    nt7 and forex trading

I've got a friend who says he uses forex.com and he uses ninja.

I've just gone to forex.com to look at their website. It looks 1 minute to open up a practice account. How do I select them as a a broker and get their forex data feed flowing thru ninja into my charts?

I'm currently connected to ninja with mirus futures / zenfire.
Can I have 2 connections going at one time? one forex and one futures?

    HI Todd,

    Thank you for your post.

You can get a demo account from forex.com through the GAIN connection if you set up a demo connection using the steps below.
    1. Start NinjaTrader
    2. From within the Control Center window, select “Tools > Account Connections...”
    3. In the Account Connection Set Up window, press Add...
    4. Follow the instructions provided in the Connection Wizard
    5. Select "Use NinjaTrader servers" for Historical Data
    6. Select “Demo” under the Mode option list
    7. Complete the wizard
    8. From within the Control Center window, select "Tools > Options > Misc"
    9. Set the value for the property "Quote currencies (FX) in" to "Pip"
    10. You will now be able to connect to a free real-time rate simulation account
via the Control Center window “File > Connect” menu

It is possible to have two connections at the same time. Please see the following link.

I am looking at the GAIN demo connection, the data looks good. I want to place trade from chart, how do I specify whether it's a regular lot or mini lots?

For the Gain demo on our simulator only regular lots of 100K size are supported unfortunately.

          Gain Demo Connection

          Hi Team,

Any idea why FX data doesn't update with the Gain Demo connection unless I connect to Gain FIRST? If I connect to Zen Fire or DTN IQ first and then connect to Gain, my FX charts / prices do not update?

I would like to be able to do it in this order?

          Cheers,

waverider, are you working on our latest NT7 Beta 19? I just tried on my end, for example in the order ZenFire, Yahoo and then the Gain Demo and my FX spot charts updated as expected.

No I'm not using NT 7 because I don't want to trade on a beta product ! 6.5.something (latest release) ...

waverider, I tried my 6.5 with those connection combinations as well and did not run into an issue here - is it just for some FX spot symbols or for all that you would see the non updating quotes then? Any errors in your log tab?

                  Gain Demo Connection

Sorry Bertrand, I just realised this is in the NT7 section.

It seems to be for all instruments, and actually I do have some errors in my log:

"Unable to unsubscribe from market data for instrument AUDUSD. Instrument type not supported by this provider"

It seems if I disconnect from DTN IQ, leaving Zen Fire, and then connect to Gain, it works. So I think it's a conflict with DTN IQ, perhaps because they provide FX EOD data, so my chart only wants to work of DTN IQ if I've connected to it first?

If I THEN re-connect to DTN (third) the chart continues to update as normal.

                  Is this normal?

                  thanks again

Thanks for clarifying waverider, if your DTN connection offers daily FX quotes but no realtime data you would unfortunately only this being accessed, you could not selectively take the EOD data from DTN and then use Gain / Forex.com only for realtime data.

Order of Connection to Data Providers

                      Thanks Bertrand,

Could you please clarify something about the order of connection for me? If I connect to Gain before DTN, but I don't have any FX charts open, the Gain connection would not be using any bandwidth right? And should have no performance issue on the other connections?

Also, while I understand your point below, I would have thought that if I had an EOD chart open, it would default to using the DTN data, and if an intra-day, the Gain data? Reason being is this is what it seems to do with futures - i.e. If I open an EOD ES chart it presently uses the DTN feed, but if I open an intra-day chart, it uses Zen Fire. I guess I'd thought the same logic would apply?

Correct, it would just use really low bandwith to keep the connection alive.

How do you determine it would make those EOD / RT data distinctions?

The EOD chart would also be 'driven' by realtime data, so IQ would liekly just provide you the daily data backfill which is not supported for Zen on NT 6.5
