    Can't Get ES 09-10 Data, But I can get AUG 10 2010 ES 06 10 data

I have tried unsuccessfully about 6 times between yesterday and today to download the first several days of the ES 09 10 data. Nothing has come in yet. What normally happens is that NT says it is trying to download ES 03 10, ES 06 10, and finally ES 09 10, even though All I requested was the first few days of ES 09 10.

    Please see attached NT-Bug7.Jpg file.
NT could not download ES 09 10 data before 6/6/10.
NT was successful in downloading AUG 10, 2010 Minute Data for the ES 06 10 contract.

    More info on this bug

    I tried again to get the ES 09 10 data...but couldn't.

See NT-Bug8.Jpg for how I had the options set.
See NT-Bug9.Jpg for the error that NT returned.
See NT-Bug10.Jpg for NT's response when you hit the OK button to the error message in NT-Bug9.Jpg. The 'Aborting. Please Wait...' message seems to just keep the PC busy. Every time I saw this message, I had to shut NT down either by using the X in the upper right corner of the Control Center, or with the Task Manager. This last time, I waited about 20 minutes...(had lunch)...nothing happened. Usually, I will have to reboot the PC & start all over again. Sometimes, if you just close with the X in the right hand corner, the NinjaTrader.Exe is still running in the Task Manager & you get the message that there is already an instance of NT running. That's why I got used to rebooting.

ALSO, I did not see the NT-Bug7.Jpg file in the 1st post, so I tried to attach it again to this reply.

I also tried to include the trace & log files, but your size restrictions prevented it.
I think the attached Traces.Zip contains the info you want.

Mixing data downloading and charting/backtesting and building continuous contracts, and/or rollovers in this manner does not really seem to be related or make that much sense. Combine this with the fact that NT does not tell us when you restrict requests, have problems completing tasks, etc. and it causes problems. Look at it from our (the Customer's) standpoint.

With the current logic...For example...this is what happened to me:
Lets say that I WANT to download the Sept contract from 6/1 thru 9/10.
So that's what I request In the Downloader. I go through the exercise of requesting the dates I want. NT spins and does something...No Messages, No Warnings, Nothing. It looks like NT did everything I requested properly. But wait. I run a chart, optimization, backtest, whatever and it doesn't look right...I check my code, the chart, etc. etc. etc. Finally, I look at the database and discover that several days worth of data are missing. What happened???

Now I have to figure out what I did and try it several more times. After wasting 3 or 4 hours doing what would make common sense, rebooting, reading documentation, etc...I send in a request to the forum. Then I find out that other almost totally unrelated settings are being used to restrict my request...Without Letting Me Know!

I have to go thru several screens and change options that basically don't not have anything to do with my request. Then, to top it off, I have to remember to go back in and change the options back again. With all the other problems, it is very hard to remember all the changes you have to make. I have to know that somehow there are hidden locks in the system that prevent it. If NT is going to do stuff like that...TELL US where we set the Download Options, Backtesting Options, Optimization Options, Charting Options, etc. OR don't mix and match the options.

So far, on this point I have wasted at least 4-5 hours or more.

It still really boils down to the fact that NT doesn't tell us when something doesn't work properly and/or is changing our requests for some reason.

A Download feature should Download Requested Data.
A Charting feature should chart data.

          It Works

I upgraded to 17, it did work by changing the setting.
I still don't agree with having to change misc. other settings to get data to download as requested.

            Hi ChuckAllen,

Sorry to hear of your frustration.

I will forward your comments on to my development team for further considerations.

Have you tried setting the merge policy as NinjaTrader_Josh recommended in post 2? If not, please do so and let me know what your results are.

              Yes The Workaround Did Work

I just upgraded to 17 this morning. When I changed the option as recommended, it worked. I still completely disagree with having settings that are dozens of clicks away control something that is barely related. The real problem lies in documentation that is located AT the point where the problems lie.

There are several ways to fix it. But at least Please Tell Us when you cannot finish a particular procedure properly, or change what we requested, or have settings somewhere else in the menu structure that will change the perception of the requested process, etc.

Oh, by the way. I had so many other things going, that I actually forgot to put the Merge option back the way it was after changing it to test/finish the downloading.

                Hi ChuckAllen,

I'm glad to hear that changing the merge options did the trick for you.

I will forward your additional comments here on to my development team as well.
