rather a question, not bug report

    Hi,
may I ask you how to speed up NT when forward testing on market replay data? If it starts, it goes approx. 8 real minutes in a second, but later after it makes hundreds of trades it slows down and goes even one minute per second or even less. Is it possible to avoid such behavior by changing some settings or using certain script routines? This way I have to -after few months - interrupt the test and start it over from the point when I interrupted it. It behaves similarly like 6.5 did, I was hoping that you will solve that issue as there were rumors that this memory issue will be solved. So far I did not notice it.
    Any hints?
    N.

    Hello,

Thank you for your forum post.

What version of NinjaTrader 7 are you using, this is found in Control Center->Help->About to the right of the NinjaTrader logo.

Also are you running in 32 bit mode or 64 bit mode for NinjaTrader if you have a 64 bit PC?

Also how much RAM do you have installed in your computer?

I look forward to assisting you further.

All beta versions (currently testing on beta 13 as beta 14 and 15 cannot use our stoploss), 64bit W7, 64bit NT7.

        Hello,

There are hundreds of changes and improvements since beta 13 that may already positively influence this, so you will need to upgrade to beta 16 to further troubleshoot this issue.

However this most likely comes down the fact that if you run market replay at 500x the speed. That is 500x the events per second especially if your are running indicators/strategies on CalculateOnBarClose= False. This is a ton of events and would be difficult depending on the strategy to keep that rate of speed for even the most advanced computer systems. The complexity of the strategy is what will dictate this.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Hi, no, this is clear to me, what I am asking about is that as test continues and makes more trades (there is no correlation any other factor), the ninja trade slows down, slowly. so the last month of market replay data goes much slower than the first one. Is there anything I can do to mitigate this issue?
          N.

Suggest you check your RAM usage.

As you keep playing back more and more, your charts start taking up more and more RAM. As you trade more and more it takes up more and more RAM as well. To keep your resources fresh instead of constantly aggregating more and more information to be shown you would need to restart up your replay with the new dates only. Otherwise it just keeps gathering more things you need to do show at the same time.

I know that it slows down with higher amount of information in RAM, but I have very fast computer ([email protected] GHz) with plenty of RAM (8GB), running 64bit NT on 64bit Win 7 Professional. I just need to know if there is a settings through which I would force NT not to use more RAM (like not to take evidence of all trades but maybe only of few last trades. I found out the if NinjaTrader.sdf file grows bigger than 20 MB you can see the slowdown and when it reaches 100 MB, then it virtually stopped, it goes extremely slowly. Maybe it could write something on HDD and clean the RAM to make it run smoothly. I expect there is nothing you or I can do to improve it but I am running hundreds of tests on 10 similar computers and any improvement would cause I will have results sooner. Any hint to improve this is highly appreciated.

                Hello,

I would be interested in how much RAM is available when the test slows down? This is shown by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your keyboard and selecting Windows Task Manager and going to the performance tab.

There is a bottleneck somewhere when this occurs, whether its the hard drive write speed, RAM, or processing power. The trick would be finding where this bottleneck is then improving the performance in that area. Since each computer will be different in the regard you will need to follow the process of elimination to find where the bottleneck is.

Also please follow these performance tips in NinjaTrader. Are you running strategies or indicators with CalculateOnBarClose=False?
