    NT7b16: hung on "loading data..."

I had a working setup of NT6.5, live +zenfire, I tried to migrate to NT7b16. I followed the instructions. The installation migrated my data, yet no chart appeared. Connection was successful.
I thought I would regenerate the charts. Out of 20+ attempts, I succeeded in showing one time ES minute chart and even that was this one time and cannot be repeated. Charts hang on "loading data" and never return. I tried this with charts with no indicators or templates.

What am I doing wrong ? Thanks

    Hello tickling,

Can you please tell me what period type was used for the ES 06-10 chart. What happens if you create an ES 06-10 1 minute chart for 5 days back?

Please check if historical data is enabled as per the Zen-Fire connection as well. Go to Tools-->Account Connections, highlight your Zen-Fire connection and click Change. Ensure historical data is enabled and finish the connection.

In addition, please try a restart of NinjaTrader as well and check if it will make any difference.

I did the above. ES chart loaded fine for 1-min. I saved the workspace, restarted ninja, it loaded fine. I connected, and changed it to a 4 range bars. It worked immediately. I saved it , restarted again and connected. It hung on "Loading data" for a very long time. I checked with process explorer - ninja is stuck. I killed it and restarted it. It loaded fine with the chart. I connected. It hung again 6 minutes ago. Now I have infinite windows "unable to convert from system.string to system.double" data error.

Can you please post your latest log and trace files. You can find log and trace files at the following locations.

Start Menu--> My Documents--> NinjaTrader 7--> Log--> log.20100602 for today. (log.yyyymmdd for any other date)

Start Menu--> My Documents--> NinjaTrader 7--> Trace--> trace.20100602 for today. (trace.yyyymmdd for any other date)

          tickling,

I am unable to find any error messages in your log/trace files. Since you seem able to reproduce this consistently with your workspace now can you please send in the workspace file in question so we can test with it on our end? Thank you.

You can find the file in Documents\NinjaTrader 7\workspaces.

Here is the workspace. More often than not, this workspace would just hang with the chart "loading data...". I have no internet issues, the same and some other more complex workspaces work smooth in 6.5 on the same connection. At some of those times, I get this "Data error" message I described before after a few minutes of waiting. At other times it would just hang until I kill ninja (waited an hour or more several times before doing that).

              Hello tickling,

I imported your 'Untitled2' workspace on my end. Once I opened it via File-->Workspaces-->Open Workspace, one ES 06-10 4 Range chart appeared. I saw 'Loading data' reflected in the upper left corner of the chart for a few seconds. Subsequently the chart loaded with data.

I connected to a data feed and chart data was loaded as expected as well. I switched the chart to a minute interval and back to the range interval, but it did not get stuck.

I restarted NinjaTrader twice as well, however I could not reproduce the issue. Can you please provide me the steps you perform when the issue occurs consistently.

I have tried many times to reproduce this consistently yet it appeared random. Following some advice on a forum I did the following:

I removed nt7 completely and started from scratch - did not help but just to be on the safe side
I patched windows xp tcpip.sys to allow 250 connections instead of the default 10
I ran a program called netlimiter that showed that nt7 actually uses ~80 open connections and may have problems with only 10 could be opened on xp

I do not pretend to be any tech wiz so I would appreciate some opinion if this makes any sense at all. Does nt7 open many more connections than nt6.5 ?

However now I tried some 10 times and it worked fine after several days of big frustration. Thanks

                  Hello tickling,

I am not familiar with netlimiter and not aware that NinjaTrader uses '80 open connections'. What exactly is referred by these 'open connections'?

Good to hear it works fine now. Please let me know if the issue recurs.

I am having the same problem with NT loading chart data at start up. Can you provide the web link for this patch? Does it work okay with XP sp3?

                    Thank you

                      smalltrader35,

Vast majority of cases of not being able to load chart data is not related to anything on your operating system.

Please clarify who exactly is your data provider, what you see on your chart when you try to pull it up, what kind of chart are you opening (tick, minute, or daily), what instrument, what session template do you have in use on the chart? Thank you.

                        Hi,

Zen-Fire data provider along with e-Signal as back up. When I open NT without connecting I have no problems. All the charts, Market Analyzer open up with historical data up to last log off. When I then connect this is where the problems start. Tick data loads but not Minute data. Its not too bad during market hours 9.30am-4pm but try connect outside of these hrs and its a nightmare. NT freezes and I have to shut down using task manager. It doesn't happen using NT 6.5 just with the new 7 Beta latest version.

                        Thank you

This is what happens when you try to connect to Zen-Fire or e-signal with NT7 Beta Version.

                            smalltrader35,

This is likely not related to what was discussed earlier in this thread. Please send in a support email to support [at] ninjatrader [dot] com with your workspace attached. Please also include a link to this thread.

Please also first be sure that you upgrade to NT7.0.0.17. Thank you.
