    Chart trader order execution

    I have had this happen several times - today when I needed fast order placement.

    Sometimes when I submit an order via the chart trader, a pop-up window will appear saying something about something missing (I believe it is a 'value') in the ATM strategy. When I click 'Ok' another window appears with the order/ATM variables.

    I am not sure what happens or what I am supposed to do - this occurs in the middle of an order when I am trying to get price point so I don't have a lot of time to mess with it - but I have never been able to get the order to fill from the second window. I generally cancel and re-submit the order from chart trader. Sometimes I get the window right away again and sometimes it places the order.

    Sorry I can't be more specific - it happened today during the 12:40 dump and I was trying to ramp up - which I was not able to do unfortunately.

    I went thru the log and I cannot see any errors over that time.

    Day Trading Fool,

    This happens whenever you have not properly filled out your ATM strategy. What I suggest is filling out the ATM strategy to how you desire it, test it on Sim to see it is working the way you want, then save it as a template. Whenever you want to trade, load the ATM strategy so you don't need to mess with it and it will avoid these issues when you are in a rush.

      Thanks for the reply Josh. Problem is, all that I ever use are templates.

      But I do switch between instruments - and the template does not always stay on the selected ATM (I was hoping this would be added in B17). Sometimes it goes to 'None'. Could that be the problem?

        Unfortunately I would not know without knowing the exact text of the error message.

              Please pull up your strategy named "My ATM Strategy" and take a screenshot or type out how you have this defined in your template. Thank you.

                Ok - here are the two screen shots.

                Please understand that no changes are made to the ATM - ever. Things seem to work just fine, and then this window pops up.

                  What type of orders are you placing to enter?

                  Also, please right click in the Chart Trader interface and select Properties.
                  Which ATM Strategy Selection Mode is in use?

                    I place an order by clicking one of the buttons on chart trader: buy market, sell market, buy ask, sell ask, buy bid, sell bid. I have not had ti happen on reverse or close yet.

                    the selection mode is set to SelectActiveAtmStrategyOnOrderSubmission

                    Also - this morning I had problems connecting. I usually connect IB as the primary (non-historical), then TDA as the backup and historical. When I tried to connect TDA NT would first list a serialization error (usually on CurrendayOHL and UpDownVolume) and then shut down. When I re-started, the charts were all messed up, but easily remedied by applying a saved template.

                    But... for some reason chart trader is now listing bid/ask size in units of 100 (e.g., 200/100 = 2 at the bid/ask). I thought this was customizable, but I cannot find the option anywhere so I am not sure what about exactly what is going on.

                      I'm not yet able to replicate this issue. Can you provide me with the specific steps you are taking on your end to cause this to occur?

                      2.) Bid/Ask:
                      Which instrument(s) are showing this behavior?

                        Sorry - can't do that. No common theme for the ATM error.

                          I will continue to test on my end, but if you are able to find any steps that cause this to occur, please let me know.

                          2.) Bid/Ask:

                              Does this occur when connecting to only one provider as well?
                              If so, does it matter which provider you're connecting to?
