Default 24/7 and 24/5 causing date shifts

    Hi support team,

while playing around with NT 7 I created a daily FDAX Chart. It had wrong data in it (3/22/2010-3/26/2010), so I wanted to change that data with the Historical Data Manager. I then realized, that I had different dates on the chart and in the Historical Data Manager. They were all shifted by one day.

The last trading day for now is 05/07/2010. The Historical Data Manager shows the correct date, the Data Box and the mini Data Box show both 05/08/2010, while the x-Axis shows the right date, 05/07/2010. All other dates shift accordingly.

This is caused by the session template Default 24/7. I already tried changing it, so that each day definitely won't cross another day. So I set each days start time to 00:00 and each days end time to 23:59. Unfortunately that didn't do the trick. I still get the date shifts.

I just checked: It happens with Default 24/5 too.

NinjaTurtle, I pulled up a daily chart of FDAX with the 24/7 template and everything looks like it should. Could you please list the exact set of steps that leads to this anomaly?

    1) start NT
    2) connect Zenfire (or another data provider)
    3) new chart -> fdax 1 day 10 days back default 24/7
    4) etc

      Hi Austin,

no problem. I just started NT7 again. By the way, after a complete new reinstallation. I also found out how to crash NT7 and I'll describe it afterwards. But I won't definitely reproduce it, since I don't want to have to do the whole installation process again.

To get the shifted dates I

      1) start NT
      2) it Auto-Connects to Zenfire
      3) I open a new workspace (not necessary to achieve the effect)
      4) I open a new chart with File -> New - Chart
      5) I double-click on the instrument in the Data Series window
      6) You'll find the Data Series settings in the screen shot.
      7) I change the session template to Default 24/7
      8) Sometimes I change "Plot executions" to "DoNotPlot" , but this doesn't make a difference.
      9) I click on OK and get the shifted date.
      10) As soon as I change the session template back to "Use instrument settings" or to "Eurex Equity Index Futures", the date is displayed the right way again. When I choose Default 24/7 or 24/5, I get the date shift.

As I already said, this also happens now, after a clean reinstallation. And it happens with any instrument, I just tried FDAX, YM, NQ, ES, 6B. I opened each of them separately.

UPPS. Now something weird happened. I wanted to see what happens, when I change the settings for these charts back to "Use Instrument Settings". So I changed that back and the effect was now, that the current daily bar disappeared. I now have 05/07/2010 as the last date!?

Hmm, I just realized, that when I open my usual CME/CBOT Contracts with "Use Instrument Settings", they don't show the current day (05/10/2010, 09:30 Central European Time). The last day is 05/07/2010. Using "CME US Index Futures ETH" e.g. will display the current day (only with the following tick). I guess, that's because it is 02:30 a.m CT, but I can't check the settings for "Use Instrument Settings" since I can't find that entry in the session manager.

      I hope this helps.

        Now to crashing NT7:

I wonder how you made your screenshot and kindly ask you, to describe your procedure.

I wanted to show the Mini Data Box on my screen shot, but at first I couldn't make a screenshot, because the Mini Data Box disappeared of course, as soon as I released the mouse wheel. I accidentaly hit a letter on the keyboard while the Mini Data Box was open and the small data series window opened. So I closed it by clicking the cross in its right corner. I found out, that this way the Mini Data Box will stay on top. I could move the cursor around to get the needed dates and make my screenshot. So I moved it to the current day and carefully moved the cursor out of the chart at its lower end, so that the date of the current day will still be displayed.

If I then clicked somewhere on the desktop outside of the chart, I got that "NT detected a problem and needs to shutdown..." popup. I clicked on OK and it disappeared. But I could keep on working. When I tried to close NT later, it just wouldn't react. So I had to close the process via the Task Manager. After that, NT wouldn't start anymore. I could see the process in the Task Manager an it loaded about 80.000 K, but nothing else happened. So I had to de- and reinstall NT again.

So, just in case I need it again: How did you make your screen shot with the Mini Data Box open?

One last thing: I installed NT 7 since 6.5 keeps on freezing, as soon as the markets get fast. Since we had quite fast markets in the last couple of days I could barely trade.

So, if I decided to trade live with NT 7 an NT 7 crashes for some reason, would I be able to trade or close the trade via NT 6.5.? This may be a stupid question, but I'm curious. I thought that maybe the trade would be loaded/displayed in 6.5 too, since it is already at the broker.

Or would the only way to deal with that trade or close it be to call my brokers help desk and let them close the trade?

            NinjaTurtle,

You could open NT6.5 and close your trade that way, but that does not mean you would have access to things like ATM strategies and such you had running at the time of your NT7 crash.

For your screenshot, I actually believe we put in a fix earlier for a different case that had similar issues that should help in your situation here. Can you please try again on the next beta version and let us know if you can still reproduce? Thank you for your patience and efforts.

              Hi Josh,

thanks for your answer. But I'm not sure whether you mean that you solved the session template problem or the way I can make NT 7 crash.

If you refer to the session template problem, I will of course test this in a future version and report about it (I think, this is what you meant).

If you mean the crashing problem, I don't think I'd like to reproduce this. I find it a bit annoying to have to set up the whole thing again.

And could you please remind Austin to tell me how he made his screen shot with the Mini Data Box open and without crashing NT?

              Thank you.

NinjaTurtle, to take that screenshot, I just clicked down the mouse wheel to bring up the mini data box and then hit Alt + Print Screen (PrtSc on most keyboards) to take a screenshot of the current window. Then I pasted that screenshot into MS Paint and then I snipped it to a smaller size with the Windows 7 Snipping Tool.

The Alt + PrtSc combination is very helpful for those hard-to-capture screenshots.

                  Hi Austin,

thanks for the answer. Of course I know that Alt+Print shortcut too. I'm not sure about your keyboard layout, but mine (German) has the Alt key on the lower left corner and the print key on the upper right corner. I just couldn't spread my fingers so far to hit them with one hand, while the other hand kept the mouse wheel clicked. ..

I just realized though, that I can also hit AltGr+Print too. These keys are closer together and can be pushed with one hand.

Well, anyway, at least I learned how to crash NT.

                    NinjaTurtle,

Yes, I was referring to the 5/7 date showing as 5/8 as well. The fix was not for your exact case, but it was similar. I believe it should still positively impact your scenario here though.
