    NT7 and multiicore

    NT7 and multi-core

I am running a quad core, with NT7 I expected to see NT7 with CPU resources greater than 25%, I.e one core

I the task manager I see Ninjatrader.exe and max cpu 25% only, is this what i should see, expected to see more cpu usage across cpu's

    thanks,

    Still faster than 6.5

    Hello tinkerz,

    Thank you for your post.

Unfortunately it is hard to say exactly what CPU usage should be used since this varies from user to user. This will be dependent on the number of windows you have open, indicators applied, etc.

Glad to hear you are enjoying NinjaTrader 7 and please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

ok understand that it is hard to say,

I only have 1 Ninjatrader.exe open, is that ok?

then it only uses max 25% which looks like one core only?

how can i tell how many cores it is using?

Yes, with NinjaTrader open only one NinjaTrader.exe will be displayed. You can see how many cores are being used by going to the Performance tab of your Task Manager window.

Unfortunately it will specify exactly what programs are being used for each core.

Ok, so when you are dealing with volume, there are spikes of data.

So if you start 2 scripts that are looking at volume, I will know they will spike at times.

But NT wont, so how can i set NT to use scripts on separate cores that I know will spike?

              therefore maximize my CPU?

There is not an option within NinjaTrader to specify which core to use for each strategy.

So even though NT is multi-core, how does NT spread the load evenly? across CPU

NinjaTrader will automatically utalize all available cores however there is not a setting to adjust which one is used more or less.

You will see multi-core use on starting NT and when you run things like optimizations and backtests.

Then I would like to request that in real time we can use muti-core processing.

For myself and i guess other users that use volume, setting the script to core with help us with overloading, at the moment NT7 is much better, in realtime it would cure alot of issues at peak volume.

because its still one core in real time

                        thanks

I will forward your suggestion to our development team for future considerations.

I am considering a computer upgrade soon.
The upgrade is for the sole purpose of making optimizations and backtests run faster.
As far as NT is concerned:
Is there an advantage to quad over dual core?
Is there a benefit to 64-bit Win 7?
Do either of these considerations matter when running NT 6.x? (I'm still a little hesitant with the beta)

                            Thanks in advance.

8DTK8, four cores will be better than two, and 64-bit versions of Windows will let you use virtually all the RAM you want, while 32-bit versions of Windows are limited to ~3.5GB RAM usage.
