I would have thought the Z-order should be 1 globally unless you decide to change it.

Z-ordering of global drawing tools error
If you apply a drawing tool to a chart it is overlayed on top of all other indicators / price series - the Z-order is 1. If you apply it globally - attach to all charts - the drawing tool is automatically placed behind all other indicators/price series on the other charts - the Z-order is the last available.
I would have thought the Z-order should be 1 globally unless you decide to change it.Last edited by rtrader; 04-18-2010, 08:10 AM.Tags: None

I've noticed the same thing.....I apply a horizontal line, and it's "on top of" price. Then I have to "move" the price back "on top of" the line. I do this all the time and it's a real hassle....Originally posted by rtrader View PostIf you apply a drawing tool to a chart it is overlayed on top of all other indicators / price series - the Z-order is 1. rtrader,
Can you please provide me with steps to reproduce. I just tried to draw a line and it came up on top. I attached it to all charts and opened a new chart. In the new chart the line was still on top as well. Thank you.
justme,
Draw objects will by default show up on top of bars. This is the way it was in 6.5 as well. In 7 you have the option to push it to the back now though.Josh P.NinjaTrader Customer Service

Hi Josh -
Create 2 charts, same market. Set "Show Global Objects" to true on price / data series of both charts.
Add a Regression Channel or Ray etc. to the 1st chart.
On the 1st chart change the drawing tool properties to Attach to All charts.
The drawing tool will appear behind the price series (or any indicators displayed on it) on the 2nd chart.
PS I think if you create the 2nd chart after drawing the line on the 1st chart it may work as you described, but if the 2nd chart is already there then it should be as I describe.Last edited by rtrader; 04-19-2010, 11:36 AM.

I'm using beta 15 and this has not changed. any line or rectangle I use is placed "on top of" price. Then I have to constantly change the Z order such that price is "on top of" everything else.Originally posted by justme View PostI've noticed the same thing.....I apply a horizontal line, and it's "on top of" price. This issue is fixed - certainly from my perspective. Drawing a trend line, channel etc. on a chart is drawn over the top of everything else - as it was in the previous release. The Z-order is 1. However, in the previous release any globally replicated objects on other charts would be drawn behind everything else. In the B15, they are on top just like the original chart - again Z-Order is 1.
I thought most packages drew trendlines / channels etc. on top of price bars. I personally prefer it this way but perhaps others don't. Ditto arrows, text etc.. I wouldn't want these to default to be behind the price bars. However, I can perhaps see a need for squares, elipses or large objects etc.. to be behind price.
There is one further issue if drawing objects were behind the price bars. If one of the handles is behind a bar, it may be more difficult to get hold of it to reposition it.
All in all I'm really happy with this feature of drawing object replication across charts....brilliant...but others may not...

may i suggest that the option for price as Z order 1 by default exists?Originally posted by rtrader View PostThis issue is fixed - certainly from my perspective.
