    Importing Historical Data Issue

I'm having an issue where the data I import shows up in the charts one day off. For example, I import the following five rows:

    20100405;0.91220000;0.91550000;0.91180000;0.913800 00;29262
    20100406;0.91410000;0.92170000;0.90950000;0.920300 00;97294
    20100407;0.92050000;0.92280000;0.91790000;0.921200 00;78128
    20100408;0.91980000;0.92240000;0.91560000;0.922200 00;67562
    20100409;0.92210000;0.92800000;0.92000000;0.925400 00;68647

When I bring up the chart, the above 5 days are listed under 4/4/2010 through 4/8/2010. With NT 6.5, the dates are correct. What gives?

    Thanks,
    Style

For Format, I tried both "timestamps in import file(s) represent end of bar time" and "timestamps in import file(s) represent start of bar time".

      For Data Type, Last.

      For Time Zone, EST.

I left the two check boxes blank, since the file had no intra-day data.

      Thanks,

        Style,

I assume you selected EST for your import file. What is the timezone for your local PC though? NT will do conversions between the timezone you select for importing and the timezone of your local PC.

The problem is now solved. I've made two changes before fixing it, so I'm not sure which one was the magic bullet:

          1) Installed beta 14.
          2) Switched my PC time from Central to EST.

When I first loaded the data I was traveling and in the central time zone. I've since come back home to EST, and have switched my PC time back to EST.

At any rate, I deleted the data and reloaded and now it looks right.

          Thanks!

            Hi,

hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread but I've got some questions about this.

I was running NT6.5 until yesterday when I installed NT7.

I installed a large amount of tick data for $EURUSD into 6.5 and it didn't ask me what the timezone was. So what did NT do? Did it assume it was the timezone of my PC? It wasn't - it was in Eastern US time and my PC is set to London/Dublin.

I only realised this just now when the data supplier sent me a file of corrections to re-import and I saw NT7 asked me for the timezone.

            Thanks

adamus, 6.5 would use assume the local set timezone, NT7 has a now a setting for this as you noticed.

Is NinjaTrader 7 able to import multi-million row tick data files now?

I was told by my data supplier that NT 6 couldn't do this and I had to split the data into files with less than a million lines.

                Thanks

Unfortunately I don't have extensive tests to refer you to, but we believe it should perform higher in NT7 - please give it a try and report back here. Thanks

I am currently running an import of 8.5 Gig forex tick data file. I'll let you know what happens.

going back to this problem with the timezone where I imported it with the wrong timezone, I want to re-import the data so that the time stamps on the ticks are correct.

Do I have to delete the bad data or will it be overwritten or deleted by the new import?

Thanks - I would delete in the HDM and then import completely fresh using correct timezone.

Bad news on the import of a big file.

                        Blue Screen of Death.

I think it had almost finished too.

Any advice? Are there any files I can watch to see how big it gets?

ps this is a new install of XP with SP3. There's not much on it apart from an old version of TradeStation and FireFox. This is the first time it's blue-screened.

Which error is noted in the trace files from today? Did you ran out of memory? You could watch the NinjaTrader.exe process in your task manager as you import.

                            Bertrand,

what are the trace files? You don't mean the log, do you? There is nothing in the log except a message saying that the first line of the import file would be ignored.

I have another issue now - can you tell me what is meant to happen when I do the following (currently it freezes):

                              - go into the HDM
                              - click on the '+' for EURUSD - which has tickdata back to 1998, i.e. gigabytes
                              - it opens up and shows 'Last', and I click on the '+'
                              - it opens up and shows 'tick' 'minute' and 'day'
                              - I click on the '+' for 'tick' and it hangs

I left it for an hour and it did nothing. Is this normal or has it frozen? After the import operation caused a blue-screen, I'm worried that this whole database is corrupted somehow - although I can still chart it.
